Is paraboloid environment mapping RTT?

Well I've been using Irrlicht for awhile now and I like it, but at the moment it doesn't support cubemaps yet not until 1.9 I'm told which were at 1.8 now.

 

I've been looking into paraboloid environment mapping I got the shader working were it takes the front and back textures and maps them to the object, but it's not done. I'm alittle confused about it. Do you pass two textures yourself to the shader or is it created from the perspective of another camera? Which to me seems like RTT. That's why I ask.
