Using DirectX Audio 8 for sound effects

Recommended Posts

I just wondered if anybody is using DA for sound effects (ie, loading WAV files into segments)? Does it work well? I''m planning to use DA since it does the WAV loading for me (and since we''re gonna use DA for music, anyway), but it seems rather troublesome to set the volume and pan for specific effects so I''m getting second thoughts. Is it better to use DA (or DM) for the music and DS for the sound effects than to use the same for both? Thanks, // Khaile

Its easy to set the pan, volume, etc. Just look in the documentation and it will show you how to do it. I haven''t had any problems with it thus far (plus its easy to add 3d sound support with DA). Then again its easy under DS as well, its up to you really.

oh pleasee tell me then how to add 3d support. what kind
of moronic developers at microsoft make me do solid api
calls to directmusic except for one call to dsound::SetPosition
for the placement of my sounds.

i''m really not getting it. can someone explain the connection
to creating a segment with a wav and then attaching it to a
3d sound buffer in order to place it?
or do i have to create some wacky thing like 1 audiopath per 3d sound file so that i can attach a dsound buffer to it to then place my sounds?
