Texture mapping for 2D displaying
how do I use texture mapping to display a bitmap image of an speed-dial for a racing game onscreen, it needs to be displayed 2D against the screen. I remember that it was different then displaying normal textures in 3D space using directX7 but since DirectX8 is so much different I have no idea as an newbie how to do it...

Look up the TLVERTEX class (or type if you''re using VB). The TL in TLVERTEX means "transformed and lit." Basically, you render these vertices to screen space, applying whatever textures and lighting you want. It''s incredibly common to use TLVertices in 2D games to take advantage of Direct3D''s accelerated alpha-blending. It''s also much easier to render an alpha-blended polygon than to write your own alpha blending function.
