I was 13 years old in 1980, and Star Castle was my favorite video game
I've completed a reboot of the game from scratch. It's available via FTP here:
https://us1.hostedftp.com/J9XnNCTk6DO9ixXZtASOH6QKX
The .exe is a mere 166KB.. the download is < 100KB. There are three files, no installation required. Unzip/Copy StarCastle.exe and the data file to a dir of your choosing and run.
I created a rather sophisticated antialiased vector graphics engine with synthetic sound generation. It's using DirectX 7.0. It's all CPU, no GPU usage.
I'm looking for comments. I'll answer any questions - at least some of them - about the game, which I coded.
It's possible to launch the game from the command line and run at different display resolutions to increase the frame rate
Starcastle.exe res(1,6) depth(16,32)
StarCastle.exe res3 depth16 will attempt to run the game VGA (640x480) 16 bit color.
res1 = 320x200, res2 = 512x384, res3 = 640x480, res4 = 1024x768, res5 = 1280x1024, res6 = 1600x1200
Enjoy, Eric B
