Cooperative Pathfinding and A*

On a high level perspective, should cooperative pathfinding and A* be executed on the same thread,

or A* should be carried out first followed by CPF,

(interweaved or parallel execution)?

 

Update:

I see in WHCA*, it aggressively re-pathfinds in each iteration, is my understanding to it correct?
