DirectShow and DirectSound, do they taste good together?
Howdy,
I have read about people using DirectShow to play MP3s. I would prefer to use 3MB MP3s over 50 MB wave files.
But the way I understand it, I will still need DirectSound to play my in game sound effects and such.
My question is, if I use DirectShow to play a background MP3, does it lock any system resource that will prevent DirectSound from playing .wav sound effects in a game?
Thanks in advance!
You can use DirectMusic to play mp3''s as well.
I''m not sure how all three of those guys get along if you try to play sounds at the same time.

I''ve never had any problem with using Direct Sound, Direct Music, and Direct Show at the same time. I play MP3s using DirectShow and my wavs, segments, etc. with Direct Music/Direct Sound. No real hit in performance or quality.
