been playin with this one for a while. even working straight from the dx8 tute, the method fails. tried filling out the D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS by hand (verifying with CheckDeviceType) and get the same results. tried every format for 16 & 32 bpp. tried different device types, etc, same results. tried filling the D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS struct with garbage data to see if i could get a different error, but no such luck. the method is not ''correcting'' the back buffer count in the D3DPRESENT_PARAMETERS struct, and the IDirect3DDevice8 pointer doesn''t get changed. (dammit i even followed the directions!) any ideas on this one?

Do any of the samples that come with DirectX work? If they do, then it''s probably something you are doing. If not, then try fixing your video drivers or something cause it''s probably not your code. And if they do run, then without some of your code posted to look at, the solution could present itself in a myriad of forms.
