hi, i was looking into the same question oyou had a little while ago and I decided that instead of using Director I would use the web based 3D technology from www.wildtangent.com

maybe you ,might want to check it out. they have extremely detailed tutorials that will get you up and running and allow yuo to use a variety of modelling tools as well as any language from java-script to Java to C++ to Visual Basic.
