z-writes without z-tests

Can I turn off Z-testing BUT keep Z-Writing With OpenGL? ( I do front to back drawing the world, want to do z-writes, and then zbuffer the non-static objects (enemies), just like in quake-I. So Z-tests are not necessary for the world polygons, it''s waste of performance )
