RED GODDESS:
 

Hi! We are Yanim studio, a small indie developer and 3d animation studio based on Spain.
 
We're working since 2013 on an action/adventure game called Red goddess, development of the game is going fast now, and we think it would be great to share with you the rest of the development here, we will try to keep this topic updated every week, and describe several aspects of gameplay, design, art etc..

Red Goddess is a nonlinear side-scroller platformer with combat situations in an adventure to explore the inner-mind of a Young Goddess with the objective of remembering and recovering her own powers.
 
*Explore the mind a young goddess
*Fight against the “dark thoughts” and an invisible enemy “The narrator”.
*Possess and move elements of the planet to uncover the mysteries from the past of the main character.
*Combination of brawl and platform action in an epic and compelling story.
 
 
GAMEPLAY: 
Control 3 playable characters with their own unique skills and abilities in a non-linear platform/adventure game.
You can play the game with Divine, the main character to jump, doble jump, talk and interract, and also some psiche power like telekinesis.
You can also select and play as a “mask” of the main character (either Rage or Fear persona).
Once you play as a mask, you can unleash deadly melee combos, useful for combat situations. But the other mask appears following you everywhere in the game, and could turn against if you activate some traps. 
Unlock Powers. You will have to find and collect pieces of an ancient armor to unlock new skills and enter new zones.
Possess and move elements of the planet to uncover the mysteries from the past of the main character.

THE STORY:
 
The story revolves around a troubled goddess named Divine. She feels confused and haunted by her past. Something mysterious and unknown is tearing her apart from the inside out, destroying her mind, her soul ….and her altogether! Our journey begins when Divine decides to right this wrong by exploring her own subconscious. She will discover a planet within her own mind made up of mountains, forests, caves, and unknown perils. Discovering who she is, who she was, and what she will become is our quest…..but soon we realize that there is more to this adventure than what we first thought. Explore a mysterious Planet driven by the subconscious mind of the main character: Divine.
 
How progress is going?
 
Game development really started with the entire team on July of this year. We had to redesign the whole game, and learn the new features of our new engine: Unreal Engine4. 
Development of the game is going fast, we have done in october a functionality demo. The purpose of this demo was to try and test the gameplay with all the powers of the main characters here in our studio. Most of game mechanics has been done, and now we can say the base of the gameplay is OK. We just have to refine combat system, IA of NPCs, and Enemies. Now we focus all the prgramming work on this and with the art, we actually focus in creating the entire world of redgoddess: dungeons, towns, Npcs, and all the misions and cutscenes.

We're delighted to share with you the new trailer for our upcoming 2.5D platformer adventure Red Goddess, showing off a revised edition of the gameplay. In particular, you get to see the gravity jump ability as well as updated, the "Evil Mask" gameplay and User Interface, with world map, player stats and quest. Divine (the main character) in action, with new environments and characters, baddies to beat and NPCs to greet across the vibrant, unique landscape:

Congratulations!! I think you are onto something special here with being able to uncover the character's past and combining all those adventure/platform elements.

 

The screenshots and video shows just how carefully crafted the images are, with a lot of unique personality and good art direction. Keep on the right path and don't add too many little features at the end of the game's development.

 

I hope you find the right balance of combat, and jumping, and exploring for this particular game. It seems like a good percentage of each, whereas many games lean heavily on one or the other...

 

I'm trying to decide how I feel about the game's title. I'm going back and forth between "pretty good" to "could do better". If you are set on the name, take the domain "redgoddess.com" right away too. I don't think the font used in the first post matches with the game's style. The font on the webpage header is better. Be sure when you care about branding and having the name stick with players that you find a consistency with the name/font/logo. It will help with the game's popularity.

Thank you so much for your post, we're very happy about. We the name we just take the domain redgoddessgame.com, because redgoddess was busy.  About the font, on the webpage, we are going to work about the logo, you're right, the problem we have is that we're a very small studio and we're focused in develop the game, now we're on the final step, polishing and improving...

We are in alpha state, meaning we have the core mechanics and systems, all over level designs, general enemy sets, sound effects in place for tweaking, testing, and breaking. 
We're working to continue to refine systems, polishing and improving scripting, with source code and Unreal blueprints editor. We've finished 3d art, but now is the step to improve lighting..

I thought the domain was available because there was no webpage at redgoddess.com.

 

Did you try emailing the "business" that is squatting on that domain? I'm curious how much they want for it...

It looks awesome! I really like your colors. I specially like the 2d looking bushes. It's a very good way to fill big spaces and they look cool.

 

We are making a 2.5D sidescroller too (a platformer with short stages, not the same) in Barcelona. We are working in GameBcn at present, and we met your game because many people told us to look at your game to get some inspiration.

 

I'm happy to tell you directly congrats for the style, I can't wait to try it!

Currently we're working in new actions in the game, in the screenshots below, you can see that we're using the Blueprint tool at Unreal Engine 4, in the code we're introducing gem rotation action , the screenshot below shows Divine brings a gem that represents the heart of the golem the objective of the mission is to put the heart into the Golem,.. please wait to play to know what is happened ...  ;)

Currently we're working our game cover, the team was working on Divine and Rage characters expressions. We wanted that Divine were not super sexy, almost androgynous character, having both masculine and feminine characteristics. With Rage there was a dark mysterious aspect. The first mask of Divine is a being of anger and muscle
We're working in Fear just now, we'll update you soon. What do you think about?

We noticed that a few levels were not working as fast as they should. After digging a little deeper we found out that our bottleneck was In one of those cases  the problem was the materials and lights, we've improved it, now is the turn to check out the mesh of the characters
