Strange app statistics

Hi.

I published a game on Google Play 6 months ago. The rate of installations has remained the same more or less:

I'm trying to explain why the retention suddenly stopped:

One could argue that it's a bad game (and maybe it's so), but if that was the reason I would expect the retention to be bad from the start. It could be the app has stopped working in most devices. Does anyone have any ideas?

This is just a guess (and not an educated one), but perhaps your app holds interest for a limited amount of time; the plateauing of installations might then come from people who have had their fill of it removing the app even while new users install it.

MWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Also people get new phones eventually and they might not bother installing your app on their new phone. I'd consider this a subset of the type of user Thaumaturge pointed out.

C++: A Dialog | C++0x Features: Part1 (lambdas, auto, static_assert) , Part 2 (rvalue references) , Part 3 (decltype) | Write Games | Fix Your Timestep!

Or they simply forgot to remove it after they disliked the game. 3 months later, they remembered then uninstalled.

Judging buy the exact timing of your plateau, I'd speculate that most of your customer base upgraded to a Nexus 6 right about then.

Thanks for the replys.

I also noticed Android 5.0 was released early november 2014. Since most installations don't come from Android 5.0 or Nexus 6 and the rate of installations has remained the same, I don't think it's the cause of the plateau. On the other hand, too much coincidence, though.

I think the most likely hipothesis is what Thaumaturge said.
