Diablo 2 Characters are 2D or 3D?

Hi, do anyone know whether the characters of Diablo2 are generating in terms of 2D or 3D technique, i mean during the game is playing. many thanks for your help

The game is 2d, but uses 3d for some effect, such as alpha blending, and the parallax scrolling, if you have a 3d card installed.
The characters in Diablo II were prerendered (in 3DS, I believe). I remember reading the postmortem somewhere... Gamasutra?
Pre-rendered in 3d (obviously)

During the game, they are sprites (2d). That''s why the game is SO huge, every little frame of animation is pre-rendered and stored as a file. Think of all the possibility, Augh!

Then is that meaning they have to consider all the items and weapon combinations, and rendered each of them?

Blizzard used the same high-res models they used for cinematics and wallpapers to pre-render the in-game models in 2D. Yes, they had to render each item (weapon, shield, helm, boots, etc) in every position and rotation.
