Making objects fall at a certain speed
i have textured quads moving down the screen by 0.005f everytime which seems to be ok on my machine but since this will change on a different machine due to graphics processing speeds how can i keep it the same.

The common way to solve such problems is to measure FPS and set the speed of your falling object depending on these results.
Update the position based on the time difference
position_vector += time_difference * speed_vector
position_vector += time_difference * speed_vector
personally im using a fixed timewstep now for physics, check out flipcode about 3/4 months ago for a good discussion on it
