Unity assemblying a character from multiple meshes in unity

for my game project I have character models that are splitted in body parts: head, hair, torso+arms, hands, legs, feet. We want to switch the corresponding section by another with the proper item geometry, like an armor, or simply build a character with the desired hair and head.  Can somebody point me to some documentatin about this, preferrably some video that goes straight to the point and doesnt requires watching N previous videos?
