Actionmapping using DInput

I''m trying to use action mapping in my game. You can let the user configure his own controls by using ConfigureDevices (IDirectInput8::ConfigureDevices). This works perfect if I call it before initializing DDraw (it then creates a window of it''s own). But how do I use it during my game, which runs fullscreen????
