Well, then there is a C for dummies book, as well as a C++ for dummies book, after finishing those, you might want Windows Game Programming for Dumies by Andre Lamothe .

although I am being serious , instead of windows game programming for dummies, get Tricks of the Windows game programming gurus, by the same author, Andre Lamothe, is the best book around in my opinion, and in the opinion of many others here, some C/C++ required.

I am of the philosophy that tutorials are good por more specific things and questions, as "how do I handle collisions?", but nothing beats a good book if all you know is that you want to make a game, or learn a language.

Good Luck!

PS: I have seen the c/c++ for dummies in shelves, I asume they must be good for starters, but havent read em.
