I feel the blanket ban on a general topic is a bit heavy handed, especially when it specifically relates to games as an artistic medium.

That said, I don't particularly feel that our narrow sub-sampling of humanity here is a good place for political, cultural, or social discussion. It will either result in flame wars or echo chambers.

I wasn't really aware that the issue was enough of a problem to need a rule. Probably because I don't pay much attention to the general-discussion - due to the above reason.

A blanket ban is probably the best way to go, though. Everything else will inevitably make one or the other person feel like they are being treated unfair or like their valid opinion is unjustly being censored. There is no way of drawing a line which is fair.

Blanket banning discussion of GamerGate is perfectly fine. It has already divided the industry and doesn't need to divide this site anymore than it has from my three or four threads. Since it was made clear my views aren't welcome I simply made a blog and moved on. As for everything else, I think it should be as always and handled in a case by case situation with mods closing or moderating the discussion as needed.

I don't know what's that gamergate about, I mean, I don't care, really. All I see is people is being shut down. It's like some illuminati shit happening. Accounts getting banned, the wikipedia being blocked, and stuff like that. Youtube accounts passing to the ether just like some twitter accounts.

The GG controversy is an issue that has divided majority of gaming sites. Most view it as a harassment campaign others view it as something else.

Recently a veteran AAA developer weighed in on it and other topics (vid 4 is GG):

Also, it is frowned upon to reply to such old threads.

I'm trying to concentrate myself, I dont have time. I would like to say otherwise but the last thing I saw in youtube was a north korean military parade, at least it was good propaganda and I couldn't feel as annoyed as with this stuff or media itself.
