Lag in LibGDX when using a sprite

I used to have all kinds of exceptions thrown into my face and lagging was also a problem because I DIDN'T use the create() method. It's a method that you instantiate your objects and declare them in it to lower the weight on memory and garbage collector. If you haven't extended "Game" then I highly recommend you to, and after that instantiate all of your objects inside of that method. The lagging should go away. If you need an example you can check in the "Libgdx sample game" tutorial in their wiki.
