Pixel Art Game

I want to develop a pixel art game in c++ and DirectX9. I want to be able to render the game at 320x240 and upscale it to native resolution. How can I achieve this?

What angle are you trying to achieve this from?

 

Are you a pixel artist?

Are you a programmer with experience in creating games, graphics programming or at least popular engines like Unity?

Are you a game designer?

 

Depending on who you are and what your current skill set is completely changes the answer. There's also no right answer.

Quite simply, really:

1. Render to 320x240 render target.
2. Fit 320x240 area against native resolution.
3. Draw render target on back buffer, using nearest neighbor sampler.
4. ...
5. Profit!
