Discarding one dimension of a face and compare with the ground

I have discarded the y dimension of the face of a mesh.

quad::vec2 triangle[3];

triangle[0].x = triangle1[0].x
triangle[0].y = triangle1[0].z
triangle[1].x = triangle1[1].x
triangle[1].y = triangle1[1].z
triangle[2].x = triangle1[2].x
triangle[2].y = triangle1[2].z

// Compare extents between this triangle and the ground

Here I don't want to iterate the triangles/poly of the ground because it will be too expensive.

I'd like to use some math to compare the extents between the ground and the projected face.

What is the best way to do it?
