For over a dozen years now I have been working on my Queville game engine (formally Fordana) and have developed a keen insight into the core workings of a mmorpg and have launched Dragon Basher where I plan to do a full re-write of my game engine to fix what I consider to be fundamental flaws in the mmorpg genre in general.

The idea behind Dragon Basher is to do away with a economic system of grind leveling and turn it into a platform where players create and share their own worlds - worlds where they can focus on problem solving and not the accumulation of stats.

I find stats to be what destroys the "fun factor" ... I have never watched the Walking Dead and wondered how much it would cost Rick to fill up his tank. It seems to me the purpose of entertainment should be to get people to escape from the "money" world, thus the Open Source license on Dragon Basher is non-commercial that extends into the game itself - meaning money, coins, bank notes, or other forms of economic systems are are not allowed. I have absolutely no plans for any "high scores" what-so-ever.

I currently have a "map walker" demo online for anyone wishing to take a look, it glues four Queville map screens together into one smooth scrolling world. You can create a character and select from two servers to play (a random grass world demo, and the original queville maps), see your inventory, and logout. I will be working towards a "capture the flag" server next which should be the first "game" created with Dragon Basher.

And if you would like to see the completed game engine I am building upon you can check out Queville - a JavaScript client with a Perl server than has the capability of hosting thousands of players:

I honestly have no idea what this project will turn into, I consider it a type of social simulation at some level. I welcome anyone that wants to come along on this ride to hop on board! smile.png

The latest version of the 'dragon' server is now online! We ironed out the main loop and fixed some lag issues, should be a lot smoother now:

I made a post on my forum explaining the details of the update:

And you can download the source code here if you'd like to install and tinker with it:
