Googling for 'WSACleanup' immediately leads to this page which says the function is defined in 'Ws2_32.lib' which you apparently do not link. Fix that, then apply the same procedure to whatever errors remain.

is that using direct play? if so both it and direct sound are deprecated. You will need to find an older sdk to get direct sound running, which may have come with the book. same with dplay. I do know you need to watch #include directive order to make sure that certain includes and defines happen before others. other than that, we need more info.
