Bitmapped Polygons not transparent........

Hi, I have been running a few games of my own and others that use bitmapped clear polygons to represent something, like a missile. However my computer does not interpret them as transparent, rendering them in wierd ways, including translucent brown, pink, yellow, red. THIS IS VERY WIERD. I''ve looked around and can''t find what is wrong with my DirectX 8. If anyone knows please tell me. RELIGION IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL
