Damn WinXP

Recommended Posts

I'm using Win XP for a few days. My game that uses DX8Sprite runs very slow on XP in opposite to Win 98 where it ran excellently. Where are the traps? Direct3D, opening a window, accessing keyboard?? Hope you have an idea! Edited by - WinXP User on November 17, 2001 3:35:30 PM Edited by - WinXP User on November 17, 2001 3:36:00 PM

A lot of people, including myself, have complained about a noticed drop in speed with XP with a good number of video cards.

Usually this problem seems to have been recitified by simply re-installing a Windows XP certified and updated driver.

I have heard this a lot from people using not only 3d, but 2d as well, especially if your video card has support for DDraw acceleration, or d3d acceleration.

I know these cards should be updated:

GeForce 3,
GeForce 2,
ATI (can not remember the model... sorry)
and Voodoo 3 and Voodoo 5 - I also had to update my Voodoo 2 to get it to run period on WinXP.

One FPS performance hit in XP is due to the ACPI feature in XP (power management). Using APM instead will result in about 20% more frames per second.
