What is the correct way to organize a character mesh?

Hi there
I recently downloaded a bvh library which was written in cplusplus. In this library, the mapping always starts at the pelvis.I wonder if I set the root bone to the pelvis.Where should the mesh go? I don't quite understand it because it only makes sense to me if I got a root bone on the feet and the biped and the mesh under it siee by side?

quite hairy ...any ideas?

Hello,

I find where the problem is now.

It seems that the biped of the pelvis and other spine based bones are rotated by -90 degrees in x and in y

When I click on the pelvis bone, and rotate it back to 0, 0, 0. It jumps back to the original orientation.

Given that I am in figure mode.

Why does that happen?
