Hi Folks.

I'm new here and I joined the forums to learn about the possibilities of game creating.

I have a project in mind, a game with a very similar engine from that of XCOM: ENEMY UNKNOWN (2013) but in a different universe (medieval fantasy).

So what is the most suitable engine you guys can advise me to use?

I also consider the option of making the game with a more simple layout/graphics so please tell me about indie simple engines that could allow me to do it, I've heard that there is even some engines that requires minimum or no coding.

Cheers.

Do you want a 3D engine with a orthographic or a 2D isometric engine?

I guess it is a 3D engine with a orthographic.

I mean, I would like to see it exactly like XCOM ENEMY UNKNOWN.

XCOM EU it's not using an orthographic projection.

But anyway you can use any 3D engine. XCOM was created using Unreal Engine 3, you can use UE4 I think it has a template to create this type of games.

XCOM is a perspective projection with an angled camera, maybe 45 degrees?

Isometric is a type of orthographic projection where it tries to emulate 3D shapes in 2D space while conveying as much information as possible. You would need to modify an engine's camera projection matrix to get this effect.

Truthfully, the easiest way to do this with minimum programming knowledge is to just draw the art by hand, and then use a 2D engine.
