I have been moding a game, but ran in to an unknown file type. (.xng)

It looks like its a modified .xna file, since the game is based on directx 9.

Would it be possible to wright a script to import /export this into a 3d modeller, or convert it to a usable format?

I attached an example file.

This is definitely a 3d format because scripting refers to it as a model.

It looks like the company that developed the game, Rainbow Studios, created a game engine with a custom 3d format.

If that is the case, their is not a whole lot you can do if there is no library that the studio released to support it. I mean if you really wanted to, you could capture the associated buffers using PIX or NSight and reverse engineer it, then write your own loader, but that is beyond my scope.

Perhaps if you were really desperate and the company doesn't consider it proprietary, you could shoot an email off to the company asking for specs. A smaller indie studio might be willing to do something like that.
