A 3d game engine is not what you need at this point. All game engines require that you know how to program, so you still have to learn how to program first. If you want an example of a game engine, go download crystal space from crystal.linuxgames.org . You can look at all of the source code and example files to see just what goes into making a 3d game, c++ files, 3d meshes, textures and all.
Alright... I''m actually gonna help you instead of these guys. Go to : www.sagamedev.co.za and in the articles section you''ll find a great list (12 tutorials) on c++, each helpful and informative and only about 2 pages long each. This will get you started.
