Start by reading the "Starting your career as a composer-sound designer (FAQ and answers)" entry that Nathan has pinned to the top of the group...

Give that a good read, then come on back with specific questions.

"how should I start my video game music endeavors" is a REALLY broad question :)..

What Brian said. And... sweeping the floors, really? That's no way to get where you're trying to
go. Have you built a portfolio site yet, with lots of downloadable samples of your work? Have
you been attending game conferences and networking events?

Nestor, i've been at this 12 years, and have some simple advice:

1)Put a demo reel together

2)post in lots of places to get as much exposure as possible.

3)Re-score trailers so producers can see how your work gels with the material.

4)volunteer to help on projects you find interesting

5)Mods offer good practical experience and exposure.

@matmile Mods? meanning make music for mods too ?

Yes, that's what he means, I believe. Be careful about working for free (in general) however. Often you can find devs who will claim to give you a ton of exposure but want you to work for free. Always try and do some kind of exchange for your work and talents. Exposure doesn't pay the bills and often isn't worth as much as some devs try to sell it. :P

@Nathan Madsen what kind of exchange ? You mean cash ?

Exchange can mean cash, or other things of value. For example, if the developer is strapped for funds, but you need a new logo for your web site, you could negotiate a trade--music in exchange for a new company logo, album cover, etc.
