hi, i want to save textures into dds files with dxt1 compression to take less space at disk, but i wonder when they are loaded through d3dx_loadtexturefromfile if they still remain compressed in mem or they get converted to surfaceformat i specify - i hope yes, but i want to know for sure it''ll work on any card any ideas if it is so ? thanks -dex

textures/surfaces ALWAYS get converted to the format you specify with D3DXLoadSurfaceFromFile().
use D3DFMT_UNKNOWN to keep the input format.
just keep in mind that any LockRect() calls to compressed texturs/surfaces don''t make any sense when trying to modify contents directly.
