Composer looking for feedback!

Recommended Posts

Hello, world! I'll cut straight to the chase. Here's some samples of my music.

My Soundcloud
These are mostly up to date and contain most of my soundtrack work. There are some songs that are not on there from my most recent projects. Feel free to ask to see them!

Specific examples
Something jazzy: Fine By Me
Something emotional: Universal Depression
Something adventurous: Witch's Waltz
Something quiet: Deliberation
Something overwhelming: Enigma
Something warm: A Frail Hope
Something OBJECTION!: Towards the Truth
Something nostalgic: Memories
Something intense: Invocation
Something smoky: Come Rain or Moonshine
Something reflective: Stumbling Block
Something vocal: Shatter

My work:

Where I'm strongest (Where I get to brag)
1. Orchestral music. I'm a classical oboist mainly and have been playing in orchestras all of my life. I have also played flute, clarinet, bassoon, percussion, cello, and piano with orchestral ensembles at the college level or higher.
2. Jazz. I worked as a saxophone player for a cruise line, doubling on flute and clarinet. I have also played many paying gigs with big bands and combos.
3. Electronic music. While it may not be my main focus, I have a fair amount of experience with it and I am confident with what I can do.

Somewhere in the middle (What I'm working on)
1. Vocal music. If you want something with vocals, I can get my good friends Rose or Savannah to record. We just finished recording our first collaboration, Shatter. It's listed under examples below if you would like to listen to it. If you want vocal music, the deadlines will be longer and the charge will be higher, probably around $80-100, but we can talk it over.

Where I'm weakest (Just so you know)
1. Hard rock. MIDI electric guitars can only go so far. While I can write anything rock-wise, my guitar skills leave a lot to be desired, so I will say that this is probably my weakest point.

Feedback:

I'm always looking for feedback! Feel free to let me know what needs work below.

Thank you for sitting through this wall of text!
Cheers!

Oh gawd i really like your music, especially Enigma and Objection one, its really amazing how you pulled of that fast piano sections like in jrpg battle scenes!  And vocals are great, even if vocals are not my thing i found them pretty cool :)

Now, i am not good feedbacker but i will try to make them anyways :D

1) Guitars in your pieces are played more like piano than real guitar, i mean, you need more expresiveness to them like bends and pinch hormonics. (said a guy who never played real guitar :D )

2) Its me or some instruments are strongly compressed? Because some parts of my brain really miss certain frequencies. Mostly in Objection music. Nah, i think its just me... or not?  :P  its really imo, very imo.

I think its only objective feedback i can give, i hope it helps a bit at least  :)

Hey, thanks! Yeah, I just got some better guitar sounds, so I need to practice making them sound more realistic, since my guitar skills are still in the works. Also, I try not to edit the instruments too much, but I'll keep an open ear. Either way, thanks, man!

Hey I just took a listen to your stuff and it sounds great!  Very clear that you have that orchestral background.

I'm going to add to what you two were saying and say that you should have those guitar lines recorded.  Guitar is what I started on so it's the most familiar to me.  In the same way that a jazz combo can take your chart and morph it into something that really works well, a guitarist can take those lines and liven them up quite a bit.  Since they are at the forefront and not just a simple textural addition than I think it would be worth your time.

Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I completely agree, since I'm a classical/jazz musician, and there is absolutely nothing that can compare with live instruments. Guitar is next up on my line to learn, though violin's taking a lot of time right now.

Either way, thanks again!
