You have a math error. 9.81 m/s2 at 32 pixels/m and 60 frames/s is 0.0872 pixels/frame2, not 5.232.

i'm coming up with 0.005109375 pix / frame^2

9.81 m/s^2 / 32 pix / m = 0.3065625 pix / sec^2

0.3065625 pix / sec^2 / 60 frames / sec = 0.005109375 pix / frame^2.

however, pix/sec^2 / FPS != pix / frame ^2 as i recall. its not truly a linear relation as i recall. but linear is often an acceptable estimate.

pix/sec^2 / FPS = pix*frames/secs^3 ? no, that's not right... been too long since i did this stuff.

You've got math errors too. Dimensional analysis is your friend.

m/s2 divided by pix/m produces a result in m2/s2pix - division by x is equivalent to multiplication by 1/x, so (m/s2)/(pix/m) is equivalent to (m/s2)*(m/pix). You want to multiply acceleration in m/s2 by the pix/m conversion.

Similarly, pix/s2 divided by frames/s produces a result in pix/(s*frame), which needs to by divided by frames/s again to produce an acceleration in pix/frame2.

Sorry for the obvious error regarding mt (i mean m offcurse) and thank you Norman for the tips u gave me. I have to admit I get little bit lost on the discussion about acceleration. I understand I make stupid error about conversion so I must convert ((a*32)/fps)/fps to get the correct conversion as said Antony, right ?

The problem isn't about physics, but about camera control and reaction times: as long as the player can somehow catch and recover the falling box it needs to remain on screen.

Three seconds of free fall, i.e. a comfortable margin above the stated 2 seconds, neglecting air resistance etc. because we are interested in the worst case, represent a drop of 0.5*9.81*3*3=44.145 m, rounded to 50m (also including 5m of box height); with a vertically fixed camera the lowest platform the box can fall from must be 50m above the bottom of the screen.

It seems an awful lot of space: clearly a camera that follows the falling box would be much more suitable than a fixed one, and platforming controls can be much tighter (e.g.0.5s or less to recover the falling box).

So now as understand the conversion rate I have another problem, offcurse I was calculating wrong the movement of the box based on the gravity and that resulting on a offscreen in 2 seconds. Now my problem is that I try to get some numbers from my program while debugging but I'm not getting the numbers I was expecting to get.

32 it's the pixel per meter ratio and 60 frames per seconds

on the execution of the code I got this results, as you see on the key frames ** I expect to get after 60 frames 4.90m as distance but instead I got 4.99m and same for the other frames, the velocity seems correct so not really know what's could be wrong, probably pixel convert not really good :/
