What types of games would you like to see in the future?

I would like to see this crazyness in chasing after ultimate realism and VR and similar crap end, or at least easen up a little bit so that big AAA studios once again put their efforts to were their strengths were in the days long gone by... great storys and innovative gameplay.

None of the likes of Ubisoft or EA got big by ripping off themselves on a yearly basis, being dicks to their customers, and generally chasing after trends and endlessly producing sequels to horses long beaten to death. They got big by creating (or investing in) great ideas and design. By actually finishing games before they release them. By not tailoring games to looking good in pre-release trailers, but looking good when run on the averages dudes crappy computer. By not wasting most of their money on marketing and elaborate management structures, but paying the actual developers of their games and keeping them on the team even after the game was shipped.

I'd like to see customer stop investing into serial scams like the yearly FIFA installement or the yearly CoD (even though it seems that genre-definer-turned-into-serial-crap spawns some sleeper hits from time to time). But then I guess that is part of the reason why a lot of the games coming out in the decade have been so MEH! Would not happen without people pre-ordering games time and time again, paying for overpriced DLC, demanding better and better graphics yet at the same time seemingly being oblivious of the exploding budgets for producing games when game prices remain stable (safe for F2P and DLC sheenigans), and seemingly still putting up with all the crap the Ubisofts and EAs of this world try to force down their throats (and lets not forget Konami and Capcom... as much as I would like to be pissed about Metal Gear Solid, I don't know the series well enough. But I am pissed about what became of Castlevania!... as for Capcom, F*** you for abusing the BoF series for cheap phone games).

If the average Customer would be informed enough that there are far, FAR more games to play out there than just what the biggest AAA studios put out, would ignore the marketing and mainstream media, have enough patience to NOT EVER pre-order anything unless its a Kickstarter project they really want to see come to life, and not even buy a game at release, but wait AT LEAST 6 months to make sure the game is as good as advertised and actually is in working condition by the time the game is bought, big AAA studios would have to adapt or die the death many of those deserved for years.

Well, really, having had that old mans rant, and giving up on the AAA industry to ever do the right thing, which is listen to fans and the market instead of weird focusgroups and analysts, there is not much I miss in todays gaming releases if I ingore the general crap many AAA studios are slinging around.

I do miss good old school RTS games. Without any MOBA-crap tacked on, without trying to be innovative yet failing to achieve that. I did play some recent hardcore-ish WW2 RTSes which were quite good, still having a go at it in DoW 1 from time to time. Blizzard games are not my cup of tea even though I generally have to admit they are far from the usual modern AAA crap... so Starcraft really is not for me. I tried, and gave up on it. Still, I can see why some people like SC2 so much.

Still, I miss the C&Cs, and the time when all Dawn of War needed was a slightly clever idea to keep the RTS formula from getting into a base building contest, a good use of the 40k license and some good campaign storys. No dicking around with elaborate early rush blockers and MOBAesque stuff, no super units tacked on that also made the tabletop game break under its own weight.

I miss the time when good teams would take a risk releasing a new RPG expierience. To be more precise, when the budgets of an AAA release where still low enough to be able to take risks while at the same time working with some AAA writers and artists.

I know that CD Project red has achieved that to some extent with the Witcher, which was a well done game from the start, and something of a risk given the novel was most probably not that well known outside of Poland. I really have to find the time to play the whole trilogy one day.

I also have to bow my head before guerilla games because clearly Horizon Zero Dawn was quite a risk, if not gameplay wise, then at least when it comes to the story and setting. As much as I see how it borrows heavely from other games gameplay wise and I even think the combat system has many flaws when really put to the test, the setting alone makes this already a contender for my personal game of the year. And really, I don't care if you call that game an RPG, or Action Adventure, or Open-World-Whatever. Its an Action Adventure with RPG elements to me.

At least it seems we have the time of the half-inspired WoW-MMO-Clones behind us. Another one of these generic fantasy worlds which started with an interesting idea and then executed on it by making it look and feel like WoW and I would start to scream.

I would go on to complain about the lack of interesting Metroidvania games lately, but then there are a ton of Indie ones I still have to play, I haven't finished Guacameele or Ori and the blind forest yet, and then there is the shimmer of hope that ritual of the night can continue the real castlevania SotN expierience Konami refuses to work on since over a decade. So I guess we are quite covered on that front thanks to Indies, and designers and devs leaving the AAA dickhead culture to get back to create good games once again as Indies.

I want to see development become simple/widespread enough for great indie games like from the deths/kenshi to become the new norm.

For me it's preferable to have an online browser game it is convenient for me to play from any gadget in any place convenient for me  the main thing is that games do not require downloading this is easy and simple. for exemple this game free-slots-no-download queen-of-the-nile helps me to remove the stress after work and restart the brain, it is very convenient and for such games the future

(1) By 2060 I expect direct neural input and output for full sensation and total control.

(2) The obvious corollary to (1) above: merging of the gaming and porn industries.

This will be the downfall of civilization and the inevitable conclusion to humankind's dominance on planet Earth.  So long, it's been nice to know ya, excuse me while I go plug in.

This was actually addressed in a 1983 Hollywood movie.

I don't care about all those special effects or anything like that because there's something called actual reality where I can just travel and see that crap. When I play a game its all about the content.

(1) I would like to see in the future more Mario, of course, but more specifically a game like Mario is Missing without all of that educational stuff. Whomever put that in must be a real tool. Probably some teacher or something. Just imagine a Mario game where Koopa takes over the world, loots cities, and you as the plumber must raid the stash of stolen loot under the city and on the streets. Along the way you solve puzzles like how to reverse the flow of water from a part of the city that Koopa flooded and ultimitely where he hid the loot. You would then find different power up suits like in Mario 3 and use these to fight the koopas. The boss waiting for you at the end of the room would actually fight you, not run like a toad. Anyways, the idea of the globulator, and calling others to help you in a level - who knows maybe throw in Wario, Toad, and Waluigi and make the game multiplayer would be cool. That's would be something I would definitely want to see on steam. And not in 2060 - geeze I'll be well into middle age or even older. Why not 2020 instead.

(2) I would love to see more games on the phone that use the GPS. Pokemon GO is an example of this kind of game but I'm talking about taking the globulator in Mario is Missing and implementing that. You would then be able to actually walk the courses on the map and hit the goal tape in augmented reality! There would also be a feature where you could call a friend to come and see you by tapping his/her avatar and causing a marked path to be highlighted. The game would then guide the person over to you. This game would be a treasure and have great replay ability.

(3) Mario Kart on the phone but using GPS. So you would have a map on the phone showing the virtual race track. You kart would be your bicycle and you would race... not exactly. So each person would start at a different point on the track and move towards the center. The first one to get there wins. Of course the track would span a few miles. I'd like to see this next year but Nintendo doesn't take ideas. I wonder if I can write to Mr. Miyamoto.

(4) A bicycle jousting game. This would be a game where each player rides a recumant bicycle and carries a spear in one hand. The spear is actually a long steak with a blunt end. The idea is to push your opponent off the bicycle. Bicycles in later levels could also be equipped with rocket launchers which shoot bottle rockets. Some other weapons would include hammers, bicycle chains, and the x-bow. This x-bow is two bows tied together to form and "X". This type of bow launches a large stick with metal wire place at one end for balance. The end of the stick is blunt. Used for long distance knockouts. So before I get carried away with weapons I will describe the bicycle more in depth. The bicycle is recumbent, made of wood, and has bumpers on each end because your supposed to do a bulldozer attack to knock over your opponent as well. Bicycles are also equipped with a retractable arm after an upgrade in later levels. The retractable arm has a pulley at the end of it and is retracted vertically in front of the seat. When the rider goes near an areal cable it can be mounted with the pulley. The pulley would be attached to the drive train via a chain or belt and the rider can actually ride the cable by hanging from it! Bicycle jousting could then commence in the air! A game like this would be awesome and I probably would not be able to leave my seat! I want to see this at least by 2020!

(5) Mario Maker with programmable and custom characters as well as a sound synthesizer like in Mario Paint but better. Doubt this will happen soon. Probably in like 5 years... sigh!

(6) Mario and Luigi working in the sewers. Like the game pipe dream but with Mario and Luigi in 2D platform style gaming. They climb up pipes, go into them, and all that. However, the sewers are flooding and they must redirect the flow of water so they turn valves, look for tools along the way and find coins to buy tools. So most of the game would take place under the city with the plumbers surfacing to buy tools and stuff. This would be more of a puzzle game but with the Mario run, jump, and warp gameplay.

(7) A game with that bluejay that appears in Super Mario World after you enter a hack code. He follows Mario on the map if he appears in the game. So anyways, this bird would be Mario's pet or something... well a messenger like a pigeon to let Luigi know where Mario is and what his progress is. Not sure how this game would be integrated with Mario World but it could be an areal side quest where the bluejay travels to the other player completing his own levels and dodging obstacles like rocks, insects, and looking for food to sustain flight. There would also be some puzzle scenarios like, for example, the bird getting stuck in an old abandoned house when its raining outside and having to find his way out while eating bread crumbs for energy. (Happened to a real bird at the gym where I used to go. He got stuck for a year inside the building and had to eat food from the cafeteria floor to survive. In the end he got out safely.)

I actually tried to do this a couple of years ago. The project that I'm working on was originally completely browser based. Was convenient in that nothing had to be downloaded or installed but there was a catch - network is unreliable. Sometimes the network was down so could not do any work in the project - no saving of game data. Also the large media files were slow to download on my phone. I have since moved the project to native and have it interact with the network but not dependent on it.

All I really want is two things. First, I really would not mind more shorter games. I don't have the time I used to for 50 hour RPGs. Heck, I really don't have much time for even 10 hour games.

Second, I'd like to see more games be a little more old school in their design. You have to be careful of course because some things back in the early days of gaming will not work by today's standards. But if Doom 2016 taught me anything, it's that you can have a modern shooter with old school design and mechanics. I had originally thought those kinds of games were effectively dead, at least in the AAA space. More of them to spice things up would be nice.

VR Neural integration like shown in animes like (.Hack Sign or Sword Art Online) would be really cool.

I would love to experience such things before i die. But such a thing may break society entirely, because this would replace a lot of parts in the real life entirely.

But looking at the present now:

I just want more games like "Beyond Two Souls" and "Life is Strange" and more platformers / shooters with more focus on movement skills and control. Also i dont want to see military shooters anymore -> More kick ass alien shooters!

I like bright and simple games that I can play with any gadget at any time

I think we need MMO games that can truly persist, worlds that just keep expanding instead of starting from scratch every tot year with a new title. I wasted 3k hours into Guild Wars 1 because all that effort was washed away at GW2 launch, and all I was left with was a f*cking string of text on top of my character that said "Champion of the Gods" which noone ever noticed...no more mmo for me.

On the single player side, everyone does his "throw-away" game and I don't understand why noone is going down the Dwarf Fortress path, which is lifetime commitment to a project, if gems can be created in 1-3 years, imagine refining and expanding those gems for an entire lifetime, those are the type of awesome beyond imagination games which we will never see during our lifetime.

Probably the problem here is that is all based on money, therefore one need to create new games to keep the player interest high and keep earning money, so I dream of a society where everyone receive a basic income just because he is on this planet thus removing the need for making money to survive, if that where to happen then games would be made just out of passion and we would have more of those lifetime-commitment projects. I also think it will eventually happen in the future, and we have the bad luck to be born too soon to see it x_x
