Hi everybody,

I do this small announcement to let you know that I am working on a small 2D platformer game based on the 4 elements (water fire, earth and air) that should be out in a couple of months. For more info check my devlog on gamejolt : https://gamejolt.com/games/Elemento/269126 and please follow and comment if you are interested.

Have a nice day :)

Small update, I have uploaded a first screenshot showing the main character, a first enemy and some texture tiles for the water dungeon. Take a look and tell me what you think of the different elements, any comment is of great value for me.

A small video of the enemy moving and attacking should follow shortly too :)

Here is the link again in case : http://gamejolt.com/games/Elemento/269126

Thank you

I have some concerns about this.

There is a reason people use programmer art. It shows you what your final characters and assets needs to do before making the finals.

Now when you add new abilities or want animations you have to wait for a artist to make them. When you decide to change a small thing on the character to match the game, you will need to redo the whole character.

Your game is shaping well. Keep us posted.

Yeah I see what you mean

However, I have some based code that was already tested with a similar character but smaller one that is working well and fitting nicely in the game. So I think that this main character should fit nicely too as he will behave in a similar way. Also the screenshots I posted are actually more zoomed than what will be the view of the player in-game, so little details won't be that much perceptible. Anyway, I am working very closely with the artist that made the pixel art and the first animations (IDLE and running) should be delivered in a few days. I will then post some demo videos of them in-game ;)

Thank you a lot for your comment and I hope I answered to it well :)

I have also a small announcement to make, if anybody is good in pixel art please contact me as I really need some nice background for my game :)

Big news everybody, after a lot of work with tajuhe (the pixel artist behind the design of my main character), I am proud to finally show the Idle and Walking animations here : http://gamejolt.com/games/Elemento/269126

Please let me know what you think of the animations, every comment you leave is very valuable for me

Thank you all :)

Considering how short the animation was I think you could have done better by uploading it as a GIF for people to see.

The animation matches the game style so that is good.

Just remember that a game is not its art. As the developer it's your job to make the game and the artist job to translate that into art that can be used in a game.

I would really like to see some basic game play, to see how the art works with your game.

Thank you so much for your comment, I coded some enemies already that are ready for a gameplay demo, but I don't have all the animations I need for the main character. As soon as I get them, I will definitely upload a longer video showing a bit how the player interacts with them and how each enemy has it own behavior. And you are absolutely right that the art in a game, while very important, should not be what leads the development and I communicate a lot with the artist making the animations, to make sure they fit what I expect (the walking animation is the result of many exchanges between him and me as I wanted every detail to fit nicely in the game).

Thank you a lot for your comments again, they are really useful

Hey guys,

I have uploaded a new update on my devlog revealing a big game mechanic of my 2D platfomer, please go check it out and tell me which one is your favorite (you will get what I mean when you read the update ;) ).
