Do you have a license from Sega to use their IP? If not, I strongly suggest you find a new name for your game.

(correction: Hodgman points out this is about trademarks, not copyright)

Don't need one. Sega doesn't own anything that will be in this game. Shinobi, Jutsu's, and villages are all casual Japanese terms. But as i said. Any further questions should be asked in discord because i may not see the replies through this website.

If you were reproducing their assets in your game that would be copyright infringment, but I think swiftcoder is talking about Sega's trademark on the word "Shinobi".

They own the right to distribute video games with the word "Shinobi" in the title. If you use that name, they will eventually send you legal threats as you will be infringing on their trademark.

Yes, being able to buy the rights to a common word is stupid, but that's the legal reality. If you wanted to contest it by saying "hey, that's a common word", you would've had to file an objection back in 2002 when they first registered it.

Alright thank you for helping me understand his statement he made. The name that we have for the game is just a placeholder.
