Changing the display mode after creating a d3ddevice....

Will a call to IDirect3DDevice8::Reset() with new presentation parameters change the display mode? Or will it just change the backbuffer settings? I need to change the display mode after the device has been created. Do I need to release the device and create a new one to change the display mode? Thanks René
