I am currently trying to make a 2d 20+ player multiplayer game, and I was wondering if players should be able to run through each other in a 2D SideView game... If one person would write a book on DirectX in VB, I would make them a rich man!

I don''t think they should run through eachother. Which character would you put on the top? I''d better like some collision detection on ''em all.

I don''t think it would matter which one was on top. As far as the player is concerned, he is always on top and other players run behind him.

For a multiplayer 2D side-scroller, I would definately recommend that you allow characters to move through each other. If you do not, you introduce a few design problems, such as the possibility of characters blocking passage through an area. You might be able to remedy this by letting one character "push" another along, as seen in some fighting games, but this could introduce more design issues. Basically, it wouldn''t matter if it were a one player game, but for multiplayer, characters should be able to pass through each other.
