DirectX version testing
I was looking at the sample that comes with dx7 sdk for detecting what version on directx is installed and I think
it really really really sucks. Why wouldn''t Microsoft provide a function call that would return a version number, like 0x0700 or something?? Have I missed something, please let me know. Oh, the sample is in
\Samples\Multimedia\DXMisc\Src\GetDXVer
at the sdk root if you wanted to see what I am talking about.
Yeah, I know what you mean. You see, Microsoft has this wonderful idea that since all DirectX versions are supposed to be compatible with older versions, then there is no need for version numbers.
I''m not sure if this is even recommended, but you could try checking the registry key:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/DirectX/Version
It returns 4.07.00.700 on my DX7 machine with Win98SE.
