If you''re asking stuff like this, you should forget about a game for a while and hit the books.

Yeah, that''s probably the best advice yet.

Taking the game Black & White as an example, here's what it took to make that game:

quote:
Taken directly from Gamasutra Postmortem: Lionhead Studios Black & White
Lionhead Studios
Black & White

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Full-Time Developers: 25

Contractors: 3

Budget: Approx. £4 million (approx. $5.7 million)

Length of Development: 3 years, 1 month, 10 days

Release Date: March 30, 2001

Platforms: Windows 95/98/2000/ME

Hardware Used: 800MHz Pentium IIIs with 256MB RAM, 30GB hard drives, and Nvidia GeForce graphics cards

Software Used: Microsoft Dev Studio, 3D Studio Max

Notable Technologies: Bink for video playback, Immersion touch sense for force-feedback mouse

Project Size: Approx. 2 million lines of code

Now you may or may not like the game, but it uses full 3D graphics and models. I am not trying to discourage you from trying, but this is pretty close to what it takes. The low end cost is $2 million and 2 years by 15+ developers, artists, etc

Make it work.
Make it right.
Make it fast.

Yes you need a team - at least a small team

For example I have done several smaller games together with a graphics artist.

Bunnz, if the sig at the end of your post is stored in your profile and used whenever you post, then we have a problem. Go to your profile immediatly and make the following modification:

Visit: {a href="http://www.bunnz.com" }Bunnz Productions{/a}

If you leave out that quotation mark at the end, it messes up the page. If it was just a mistake, don't worry about it, just be a bit more careful later on. If it's in your profile, fix it now.

(I replaced "<>" with "{}" so it would show the HTML)

Nightwing, we should collaborate. Email me sometimes. I''ve been working with DirectX for awhile now. If you decided not to go toward OpenGL I could probably help you out, alot.

...and yes, I would remember to feed your graphics artists. lol
