DD: Which is better, custom clipper or the D3D one?

Hello, I''m playing around with optimizations for my D3D/DD hybrid app and I''m questioning the use of the D3D Clipper. I wrote some code in VBasic a long time ago (release 1 of the DX7 SDK) that ran quite well by just having a larger ''PreBackbuffer'' then blt a section of that to the real backbuffer, but I am having trouble seeing the speed difference in C++. I guess my question is: _IS_ there a speed difference at all? Should I use my simple code for the clipping or use the defualt one? Thanks for any help!
