What does the function: WINUSERAPI ATOM WINAPI RegisterClassEx (CONST WNDCLASSEXA *); do? Why do you have to Register your class, and with whom are you registering your class with? You are registering your class with Windows so when you call CreateWindowEx it knows what the heck you are talking about. CreateWindowEx takes "LPCTSTR lpClassName" as the second parameter. lpClassName is the same value you set the WNDCLASSEX structure you used to describe your window class
