Clippers clipping my performance!

My game used to run at about 100 FPS (refresh rate of my monitor) but when I added a clipper the frame rate dropped to about 50! Is it always like that? Are there any optimizations I can use?

Unless you are using windowed mode, then just write your own clipper. A lot more versatile, and a lot quicker.

Trying is the first step towards failure.
