I have a class like this:

class CSomeclass
{
public:
    static float GetMember(void) { return member; }

protected:
    static float member;
};

when I try to call CSomeclass::GetMember() I get a LNK2001 error. Does anyone know what''s wrong? No, HTML is not an OO language.

You''ll need to initialise member to something first, before calling the function.

Something like

CSomeClass::member = 0.0f;

You have to initialize it globally in any source file, before it is used. I don''t know why, but you do have to put in the type when you are initializing it, as if you were declaring it there.
