Hey All, Couple quick questions about Terrain and Variables: Terrain: - Are there any examples of using the lower level terrain calls (ie PR_LoadTerrain) and not the high level engine? For what we are working on it is preferable to use the lower level calls. - Is the Heightfield still limited to 128x128 in PR 4.03? and are the height limits still 0-255 0= Lowest 255 = Highest? - Concerning water, how and what triggers it being applied? Variables: - The various Variables in PRSET.H like "UseAGP" are not user controlled in the setup dialog box, thus im trying to understand their default values and what happens if set improperly. Like what happens if I set "UseAGP" to true, but there is no AGP? Or what if I tell it to use 32Bit Rendering but the mode doesnt support it? Error checking/Handling is vital to the application we are putting together so am trying to get a handle on what are the default values for all this and what happens if set improperly? Are there any documents on values for the variables? Thanks, Chris Eisnaugle

Just the high level engine itself calls the low level terrain library.

Heightfields were never limited to 128x128. 0-255 is still the per pixel limit since they are stored as bitmaps.

- Concerning water, how and what triggers it being applied?

Water can be created in the environment properties in Landscape Studio. It''s a flat plane that covers the entire world and you can easily check if something is above or below the water plane and react accordingly.

- The various Variables in PRSET.H like "UseAGP" are not user controlled in the setup dialog box, thus im trying to understand their default values and what happens if set improperly. Like

Some of the variables are no longer used. In general don''t go changing the default values of internal variables since the engine is set up to work properly.

I don''t think the AGP setting is required/used in DX8. If you turn on 32 bit it will switch to 16 if not supported, and automatically change to match your bitdepth if running in a window.
