Bitmap Loader

I bought Tricks of the WGG, and Andrée LaMothe is a brilliant writer and coder, IMHO. But I realy do not like the way he presents his bitmap loader, for loading external files. Its full of his own code and a bunch of different functions that he created himself, and it seems to be a little much for me...is there a link to a page, or does anyon have sample code, of a bitmap loader for external files? thanks.

Use the DDLoadBitmap() function. It takes a bitmap file name or a resource name and loads it into a new surface. You''ll find it in file ddutil.cpp which is include with the DirectX SDK (5/6/7).

err... DDLoadBitmap() doesnt exist..there is CreateSurfaceFromBitmap(), but thats not what i want, i just need a plain ol'' bitmap loader for external files

It does exist (well in the DirectX 5, 6 and 7 SDKs anyway). I can''t remember exactly where the files are located, just do a search for ''ddutil.cpp'' and ''ddutil.h'' in the SDK directory and you should find it. It may be amoungst the SDK example files.
