Rendering a object/mesh with 1 OGL function call

I seem to remember a function where you pass a structure of vertices and triangles and all the rendering is done for you. I''m having problems because i''m rendering 14000 triangles on character models alone and its dropping me to 30 fps. Anybody know, or am i thinking about a DirectX function?

Just use the extension
It''s available on almost every 3d card.
