krezisback,
I never said anything of the sort. I think you take everything out of proportion.

true, i do blow things out of proportion sometimes. but, read the first paragraph of your previous post:
quote:To the original poster... I think you need to find a girlfriend or someone you can have a "serious adult" relationship/theme with. If your looking for self gratification in games, I think your looking in the wrong place. Go buy a magazine or a video... if it turns you on to watch little cartoony animated figures screw eachother... then I think something went wrong with your childhood...

what exactly did i "take out of proportion" this time?
quote:Coming from someone with who posts things like this. I can see why...

...
p.s. and not to mention, krez, your Robot Alien Rape Quest? thats pretty pathetic.

obviously you don't share my sense of humor. either that, or you have never seen any japanese cartoons (oh, and you must love the police too).
[EDIT]HenryApe posted as i was typing:
quote:they seem to be very fond of sleeze in Japan (an article about a successful arcade game where you poke a fake finger up a fake ass: http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,48438,00.html)

i guess my "Robot Alien Rape Quest" joke was right on the bat, huh?[/EDIT]
quote:To the first poster, you have my apologies, as this was mainly directed at this topic in general.

in that case, you are at fault. you miswrote your thoughts; i didn't misread them.
stop trying to make me into a bad guy for defending some random person from your accidental insults.

I''m an aspiring filmmaker, so I won''t say smack about sexual content. It sometimes helps with the storyline and emotional effects the producers want people to have. What I am sick of are movies, commercials, and games that have F#!$ me written all over them. It''s all a matter of where to draw the line.
No, really, what''s wrong with your face?
krez,

I am not going to take this any further. and I won''t edit my first post. I made a mistake in directing my comments to the first poster and openly admit that. I will not cover it up. It was aimed more at the masses in general who want filth in games. Again, Tab, I do apoligize. (for the 2nd time).

Anyway, I don''t like getting pulled over by bored cops as much as you don''t. but overall, I am glad that we have law enforcement in this country. Just imagine if someone came to your house, and killed someone you loved. and you couldn''t tell anyone, becuase noone cared. LAW is good. Killing cops or any group of law abiding "people" is not something I enjoy in video games. all those cops and firefighters who died to protect this land that you take for granted deserve so much more than to be killed or shot in video games.

all this qouting... krez. I must have really struck something for you to want to do all that work. Anyway, lets leave all this at that. I''m done. Good luck in your quest.

now, if you were a true krez fan you would know better than to say that... i almost always quote before i respond, it helps when the first poster has a problem with remembering what he said (*ahem*)...

you seriously must lighten up. when i was talking about "my sense of humor" i just assumed you would make the mental connection "humor -> joking". my bad... i will explain myself: IT WAS A JOKE!

it''s all good. i never said you should "cover it up" or that you hadn''t apologized (i never even said you meant it, i was just repeating your words exactly). but
(apologized != never happened)
... that is why i pointed out that you had said something of the sort.
stop being all pissy and just read what i write rather than getting defensive.

Knights of Xentar

This was a fun anime-style (hentai) RPG put out, I believe, in '95 or '96. The game was basically a standard RPG, but the graphics were ... suggestive. You could also buy an NC-18 add-on if you were so inclined.

I found a review at http://www.rpgfan.com/reviews/knightsofxentar/Knights_of_Xentar.html

Maybe you could make two sets of graphics, dialogues, and cutscenes and sell the "updated" version as an add-on like they did?

Knights of Xentar was part of the "Dragon Knight" series in Japan that came out for PC and the PC-Engine. (TG-16)

It was basically a sub-standard RPG with sex. It seems to me that game makers have limited resources. The more hentai scenes you draw the less other stuff you do...what''s the point exactly.

There is actually a mode in the game where you can just watch the scenes as a slideshow without playing the game. I suppose that takes away some of the fun but the fact they included that mode says a lot about the value of the gameplay itself.

I would echo the thought that throwing in random sex and such doesn''t usually accomplish much. If the game is actually *mature* that is one thing (as in deals with mature topics in a mature way)...hentai is anything *but* mature.

JM
Sex exists in every manufactured form of entertainment we have...from books, to films, to television shows...every one of these has some form or version of "sexualy explicit" material on them...why should games be any different?...

I''m not saying that a game needs to be as explicit as a "porno"...just the opposite, really...I don''t know any sexualy mature males who would disagree that a woman is more sexualy arousing with her cloths on then off...the imagination folks, is the one thing most overlooked and forgotten about in modern society...

anyhow

I keep reading posts where somebody wants games to be more "realistic"...yet they then go on to describe some romatisied "movie" like fantasy of "reality"...James Bond isn''t real folks...You could be the most succesful ''player'' in the singles bar scene...a different girl evey night...just snap your fingers...but in reality sex brings a whole lot of baggage when it arrives at the party...not just with issues involveing STDs, pregnetcy, and other biological concerns...but social and personal issues too...if you want realisam then how do you plan on implamenting the possability that the player could get AIDs? Get the girl pregnet? Maybe the player''s character is married, how would this mistriss fit into the whole scheme of things?

Why not make a RPG-like game where the player controls a single woman who is 3 months pregnet?...the whole game could revolve around her trying to make her share of the world a better place for the child to be born in...certainly a more mature and realistic way to deal with sex in games....and most definately this is MUCH more realistic then the endless sea of dragons and orcs one is forced to fight in a typical RPG.

But such a game wouldn''t be any fun! (trying to intercept the comments that this ''game idea'' will likely recieve)...What specific part of it wouldn''t make it any fun?...possible lack of in-game sex? (isn''t this where we are now?)...unconventional story/situation? (How many RPGs are about makeing the world a better place, ridding the world of evil?)...lack of conflict resolution by useing a RPG cliched combat and stat system? (How many threads have been written about this?...read ''em...many have some good advice)...all that is left is "it can''t be any fun because it hasn''t been done before"...If id software listened to that comment we wouldn''t be playing Wolfenstien 3D, would we?...(of course there is always some other lame excuse about RPGs needing "magic systems" and must take place in a "midevil fantasy D&D like universe with elves!")...

Prolly the number one reason why NOT to make such a game is that "it won''t sell", correct?...Mmm...isn''t the lack of game originality due in part to buisness folks makeing such decisions for us gamers?...in effect limiting the whole industry to the few genres and largely unimaginative ideas/themes they currently sell us?...I concede that such a game most likely won''t sell...but is that a REAL reason why it shouldn''t be made?
The game was an amusing distraction from almost everything-DOOM ][ that was coming out at the time, though. Anyway, Tab was asking if a game that included sex could be successful; Knights of Xentar, Dragon Knight III if you prefer, was semi-successful. I was just answering a question.

I have been waiting for some anime styled, non-hentai, games (Pokemon excluded) to be made for the US market but have been severely disappointed. Oh well...

Sex is an excellent story or even gameplay element. I''m not talking about interactive porn games, plenty of movies and TV shows that are not considered porn have sexual situations in them. People do a lot of crazy things for sex and sex can even be used as a weapon (I''m not talking about rape necessarily.) I think the problem is too many game designer\player types think porn when they hear sexual content in entertainment. Lots of movies, books, music, artwork, etc. that is not porn has sex as a major element (if not the driving force behind the plot.)

Sex could be an element in a political strategy game (look at what happened to Clinton.) The whole process of picking someone up is a game in itself (look at the popularity of Sims Hot date, or Leisure Suit Larry) and games could look into this aspect in a more complex way. Now, whether or not you want to have actual representations of sex is more of a style choice (same way games choose between showing some sparks when someone gets hit, or showing a lot of gore.)
I think leisure suit larry was successful becuase of the imagination factor... they never actually showed any explicit scene throughout the entire game. It was all played out in your head I suppose. Mystery and Imagination are real. I think that is why that game was successful. The shear absurdity of it.
