I just downloaded Truespace 1.0 for free from the net. You could do a search on it. Then I downloaded another program to convert the files from .cob to .3ds. After this you can use the conv3ds program that Microsoft includes with DirectX. The program used to convert the truespace files is Accu Trans 3d it costs 20 dollars.

Milkshape is good, and only $20.

Well, the best free modeler and game engine package out there is called gMAX by Dsicreet, he same guys who put out 3D Studio MAX. You can dl tutorials, the engine and modeler for free from www.discreet.com Its gonna be used in a few commercial games such as Dungeon Seige, so it is a good egine. You can even get a plugin to create Quake III levels. There ya go, have fun!
