Mouse clicking on which object?

Recommended Posts

I want to ask what methods can be used to determine the mouse''s positioned on which object on the screen? By transforming the mouse position and trace back to the objects like ray tracing? By OpenGL''s picking functions? Or by other methods?

What''s you API, OS, and interaction system?

He who said money was the root of all evil knew little of the nature of money and less about the nature of man.

I am using C++ with OpenGL on Windows.
And I am working on an RPG game using 3D graphics.
The terrain is in 2D space only (that is no jump or so). Using octree.

And I am using mouse as the navigation system, but it is use to point the direction on screen instead of click on the point on map to go. This, I don''t need to find the point of the map clicked.

But now, I need to click on "objects" like people for chatting and objects to take up or manipulate.

How can I know which object or person is clicked?
