i have a dell inspiron 8100 p3m 866/128mb/gforce2go32/winXP and my game runs super fast and smooth. now i decided to try it out on some dells at work ranging from a p2 to a p3 w/win2000. BUT they have 3D RAGE PRO APG 2X''s 8 meg vram i think,128meg ram or more yet this game runs like a snail and looks like the crap it leaves behind. is it me or is it the computers that suck? link to file on the page below. its called binbombs. i updated it to use opengl instead of that darkbasic. http://www.darkbasic.com/forum/read.php?f=8&i=23958&t=23958 http://www.lectersoft.com

1 it could be the lack of drivers for the card under win2k, two - lack of enough ram so it is causing hard drive swapping - and lets face it, Dell are renowned for not using fast hard drives - 3 the card is a bit old .

I am not sure about that card, but not all the Rage Pro''s supported OpenGL as far as I remember. Only the upper end ones did I think, the rest had Direct3D only or something stupid. They aren''t up as high as the Geforce2s are anyway.

i suspected the video cards are the problem. anyone try the game?

It works fine on my system...
1Ghz Athalon
GeForce2 mx
768M ram

I''d say it''s the video cards not being fast enough and maybe not supporting all the features your using. I have a vid card with a 3d rage pro chipset but it''s hasn''t been in any system for 2 years now because it''s just too darn slow with 3d stuff.

Maybe the textures dont fit in vram on the older cards. If thats the case, textures will need to move from system to vram between frames which could explain the slowdown.

good point.

the rage pro (it is is a rage pro and not a rage fury correct?) is quite slow. in fact its slower then a voodoo2 by a large margin. also opengl support is quite crappy. i should know, i have one in one of my older pcs.
I used an ATI 3D RAGE PRO for some time and those card have rather very bad performance. A TNT2M64 is way better than one of those card. I think then that your problem really is video card.
its not my problem LOL its the company i work for. mine is just fine LOL

You can not compare a old ATI card with a GF2. One of the NeHe tutorials is listing information about the driver. Run it to cheeck if OpenGL is supported.
